My, how time flies...
So, married now! "Officially," that is. :-) Doesn't feel appreciably different, really, but it's nice, just the same.

All decked out in Hawaiian shirts, [info]odogoddess, her mom and brother, our friend K from up north, and I headed to Lacy Park in San Marino, the morning of 08/08/08, to meet our officiant and his partner. They were late, naturally, in a nice counterpoint to our first wedding, to which we were late! ;-)

Anyway, the park officially does not allow weddings, but since all we wanted was a nice place to hold a very brief exchange of vows, we blithely ignored that. We had scoped out a good spot - a clearing with picnic tables, in the shade of some ginormous evergreens and oaks - but when we got there, the spot was already taken.

Drat.

Undaunted, we found another nice shady spot with a bench and parked ourselves there to wait for our officiant. Tried calling his cell, but no answer. He and his partner finally showed up, about 20 minutes late and very apologetic. We called our friend L, our "virtual bridesmaid," so she could listen in via my cell phone, slipped the phone in [info]odogoddess's breast pocket, got situated in the clearing, and got married. Total elapsed ceremony time < 5 minutes.

Just right. *g*

We went out to brunch afterwards to celebrate, and had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory later that evening.

As we kept telling the officiant and anyone else who had suggested we might want this or that in the way of furbelows and frills, we already had our wedding, six years ago, and it was beautiful. This was simply a formality, so that we could be "married" in the eyes of the State of California. We just needed to say the words and have someone sign the paperwork. It's always lovely to see our family and friends, but we really did not want a big whoop-te-doo over this, and what we wound up with was just right.

* * *

I've been very busy at work, thus the long delay in posting. It's good-busy, though - productive and usually appreciated. There's some maneuvering going on that I'm keeping an eye on, but it's a small company, so it's difficult for anything underhanded to stay buried long.

It looks like I'll be doing a lot more traveling for the company in the coming months. I finally had to go apply for a passport, because I'm slated to go to Australia for a week in November. I wish I was more excited about it, but since we really can't afford for [info]odogoddess to come with me, I don't expect to do much more than work, and I'm not particularly looking forward to it. Still, it'll be my first international flight, and with the exception of a three-day cruise to Ensenada, my first trip outside the US. Whee.

Besides this trip, I'm supposed to go to Reno in October, and probably to Boston in December. [info]odogoddess will be able to come with me to Reno, and we hope to Boston, as well. Somewhere in there, we're hoping to fit in a visit up north to see my mother, but it's going to be a tight fit.

In fannish news, I'm working on "art" for the two [info]livelongnmarry auctions I participated in. I'm not nearly as good as most of my fanartist friends, but I have fun anyway, and I hope the recipients will enjoy the "artses." I have the pencil work done for the first one; now I've got to scan it in and see what Photoshop and I can cook up. The second one is just a bunch of doodles, so far - just some concepts for now; I'll flesh 'em out once the fic part of the offering is ready.

And speaking of fic, I was very, very restrained this year, and I've only signed up for one holiday fic exchange - [info]snupin_santa for [info]lupin_snape. I nearly fell off my chair when I got my assignment, and I've been cackling gleefully to myself ever since. I have the outline about...mmmm...1/2 to 2/3 done, I'd say. I'm going to try to finish outlining tonight and then get started writing, because those bunnies, they just never get any smaller!

In other fannish news, I'm helping [info]odogoddess with [info]snapelyholidays in its debut, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the fic and art this exchange generates. Snapes all around! *g*

I've still got a mountain of old comments to reply to, and I need to do a 2007 fic recap before 2008 is over, but at least I'm working on it.

I do read my flist on IJ and LJ pretty regularly, and even when I don't have time to comment - or my nosy boss is lurking over my shoulder - all of you are still in my thoughts.

Take care!

Thanks! And you'd think so, wouldn't you? But it seems like we never make it out there unless it's An Occasion, or we're in Vegas! ;-)
