Sewing Machines: 2 Chaz: 0 Sep. 14th, 2007 @ 11:02 am
Sometimes the inanimate is trying to tell you something.

Sewing Machine Number 0ne, my trusty old friend that weighs about a ton and is older than I am, is currently inaccessible.

Sewing Machine Number Two only weighs half a ton and is about five years younger than I am. It started off fine, then began breaking the thread every six inches, despite twiddling of tensions, replacing of needles, bobbins and thread, and much cursing. That would have been bad enough, but then it started snarling the bobbin thread and making an unholy mess on the backside. Finally threw hands up in air and switched to Sewing Machine Number Three.

Sewing Machine Number Three is J's and is effectively brand new - it might have a couple hours of sewing on it. It's powder blue and cute and only weighs a few pounds. I had to resort to the manual to figure out how to thread it, but it purred as it ran and the fabric just slid under the foot like a dream. And then it started dropping stitches. WTF?

I managed to finish sewing the satin front assembly to the back with only minor episodes of swearing, but then I decided I really should pink the raw edges with the new pinking shears I'd picked up...

One hole in the back of my dress later...

I cussed and ranted and was about to bundle the 3/4 completed dress away, but J calmed me down a bit. It was getting very late, but I sat back down and finished pinking the seams, then set the satin aside and started to sew the lining front to the lining back.

And the machine started dropping stitches again.

Okay, maybe I can't take a hint, but I usually get clued in when hit by a bat.

So the dress project has been officially shelved. I'll finish it for the holidays, maybe. In the meantime, I unearthed a black evening gown and burnout velvet jacket that will be perfectly serviceable for tonight. :-)

Rambly bits and bobs Sep. 9th, 2007 @ 03:34 pm
I've been meaning to post for ages, it seems but with one thing and another, I just haven't had the time. So here are a few rambly, disjointed notes and thoughts...

About the car... )

Formal Festivities )

State of the Fics )

I don't have the energy to say anything about the LJ kerfluffle right now, nor to go into my thoughts and feelings on DH, but I'll get to both of those at some point. I'll just say that I intend IJ to be my primary journal, but I'm still reading my flist on LJ as well, and will try to post links to my IJ posts on my LJ, for those friends who haven't yet migrated.

As for DH...well, like I said before the book came out, canon is closed now, and the Wizarding World is ours to play with. And JKR can't hurt "our" characters any longer. We can rescue them, revive them, awaken them from their nightmares, reboot the system and try a different way.

And just so you know...Severus Snape is alive and well and living in Southern California with two very affectionate-- er...and happy! ;-)
